Title: Earth Images

Traditionally, Spirit Poles are placed on the land to mark significant areas. Group them together in varying sizes to create a stunning presence (click through the images to see an example). Equally beautiful indoors, on a patio or in a special area of your home.
With this sculpture Tarisse wanted to translate her “Earth Images” story into a 3D object. The choice to use metal is a reflection on the strength and longevity of the Australian Indigenous culture and the stories passed down over the centuries.
Earth Images Story
Common to Aboriginal practice, Tarisse was handed down the “Earth Images” style to paint by her late father, William King Jungala. It is a macro view of the land around the small remote town of Katherine, the area her Gurindji tribe once inhabited. It details meandering rivers, small tributaries, active and abandoned campsites.

Note: A white insert was used for photography, to highlight the carved design. The spirit pole is hollow, and the cut-out shows the metal behind.
